Threading machines

A threading machine is a special type of machine designed to create various types of threads on the inner and outer surfaces of workpieces. It refers to semi-automatic machines, where the main and auxiliary movements are automated, but the installation and removal of workpieces, as well as the control of the dimensions of parts are carried out by the operator.

Threading machines are usually equipped with a headstock, which receives rotational motion from an electric motor through a gearbox with a small number of speeds. The spindle of the machine has a screw-tapping head, to which thread-cutting combs of various profiles are fixed, corresponding to the required type of thread.

The machine also has a carriage, which is installed in place of the caliper and is used to secure the workpiece. The carriage can move within the specified limits thanks to rolling bearings, ensuring accurate positioning of the part.

The operation of a semi-automatic threading machine is as follows:

The workpiece is installed in the clamping device (vise) of the carriage. Using the control panel, the operator starts an electromechanical clamping device that clamps the workpiece. If it is necessary to ensure the alignment of the part, a special stop is used.

The main motor of the machine turns on, and the spindle with the threading head begins to rotate, carrying out working movements.

A signal is given to the carriage movement mechanism, and the hydraulic cylinder is extended, directing the carriage to the headstock.

The workpiece comes into contact with the rotating threading head, and the threading process begins.

When the carriage reaches a predetermined distance limited by the stop, a signal is given to open the screw head. After opening the head, the automation starts the carriage in reverse motion.

After finishing the processing, the processed part is removed from the vise, and a new workpiece is installed for the next processing cycle.

Semi-automatic threading machines are rarely used in conveyor production due to the limited automation of the threading process and the lack of the ability to load a large amount of raw materials at the same time. The main use of such machines is in piece and small-scale production.
